Successful stakeholder meeting on LBA

Ahead of the fourth session of the Intergovernmental Negotiating Committee for a Legally Binding Agreement on Forests in Europe (10 -14 June 2013 Warsaw, Poland) the Confederation of European Forest Owners (CEPF) in cooperation with the FOREST EUROPE Liaison Unit Madrid and the Economic and Social Committee of the EU provided an opportunity for a stakeholders discussion on key issues related to the legally binding agreement on forests in Europe (LBA) as well as on possible stakeholders’ participation in the future LBA. The stakeholders meeting took place in the afternoon on May 23, at the premises of the Economic and Social Committee in Brussels, Belgium.

The meeting was attended by 30 people, representing various interests of sustainable forest management. Stakeholders underlined the need for a coherent, stable and effective policy agreement in order to maintain the vitality and multi-functionality of forests, as well as to address emerging challenges. Many organizations and stakeholders consider this initiative as a major policy development of critical importance for the whole European forest sector.
